The Suna & İnan Kıraç Research Institute on Mediterranean Civilizations was founded as a private academic institution in 1996 within the Vehbi Koç Foundation. As of 1 January 2016, it became the Suna & İnan Kıraç Research Centre on Mediterranean Civilizations of Koç University.
The Centre continues to encourage and support research to study, document, protect and present the historical, archaeological, anthropological and relevant humanities as well as fields such as art, architecture and cultural heritage concerning, above all, Anatolia’s Mediterranean areas as well as the wider Mediterranean world.
The Centre supports archaeological excavations and surveys in the region, provides grants to master’s and doctoral students, organises national and international academic congresses and events, and publishes monographs and journals. In addition, its growing library and archives are available to scholars for research purposes.
The Kaleiçi Museum of the Centre contributes to the cultural and touristic activities of Antalya with its authentic architecture and unique displays that present scenes from nineteenth-century life in Antalya’s old city.
